PALANI is dedicated to Lord Dandayutahpani. The temple is built at the top of a 140m high hill and can be reached either by using the steps or by the electrically operated winch. During the festivals of Panguni Utthiram and Adi Krithikkai, Kavadi dancers dance and walk their way from far and near and as they flock to the temple, in hundreds, often in a state of trance. It is a famous pilgrimage town and every year more than 7 million devotees visit the Temple and offer prayers to Lord Muruga. This temple draws the largest number of devotees in Tamil Nadu.
